Serene Sophistication

| East Hampton, NY

Rooted in the character of its upside-down architecture, this East Hampton home was reimagined through natural wood, deep tonal contrasts and restrained mid-century references, creating an interior that feels intimate, graphic and closely connected to its wooded setting.

Natural Materials, Graphic Contrast and a View to the Trees

The design builds on the home's existing architecture rather than competing with it. Wood ceilings and floors establish warmth, while white walls and dark architectural elements sharpen the geometry of the rooms. The palette is deliberately concise, allowing material, proportion and light to carry the design.

In the main living space, a slate-clad fireplace provides a strong visual anchor against low black linen seating, walnut tables and the softness of a large paper lantern overhead. New tall, narrow windows frame the surrounding trees, reinforcing the sense that the landscape is part of the interior experience.

The kitchen translates the same language into a more functional setting: pale oak cabinetry is paired with dark, tactile surfaces and a black island, creating contrast without visual noise. Bathrooms combine wood paneling, concrete, matte black fixtures and simple circular forms for spaces that feel warm, direct and quietly modern.

Across the house, the mid-century influence is present without becoming nostalgic. Familiar materials and silhouettes are edited through a contemporary lens, resulting in a home that feels grounded, personal and entirely at ease in its setting.
