Expansive Ease

| East Hampton, NY

A substantial transformation recasts this East Hampton residence as a light-filled contemporary retreat, pairing dramatic architectural gestures with warm materials, relaxed furnishings and an effortless connection to the landscape.

Architecture, Light and a New Sense of Scale

Set on a wooded 1.7-acre property between East Hampton and Sag Harbor, the house was expanded and comprehensively reconfigured to create a more generous relationship between rooms, light and the outdoors. The intervention nearly doubled the original footprint while giving the home a clearer architectural identity.

At its center, a soaring double-height living space is anchored by a monumental see-through fireplace, creating definition between the formal living room and adjoining family room without interrupting the sense of openness. Expanses of glass extend the interiors toward the mahogany deck, pool and surrounding trees, making the landscape an integral part of the composition.

Inside, European white oak floors, off-white walls and natural textures soften the scale of the architecture, while charcoal doors, black-framed windows and graphic accents introduce definition. The kitchen continues the material language with white oak cabinetry, matte finishes and a generous stone island, balancing visual restraint with the practical demands of everyday life and entertaining.

Bedrooms and baths are quieter in expression but equally considered, with tactile finishes, tailored details and views to the landscape. Behind the visible design, new building systems, energy-efficient improvements and integrated technology bring the same level of intention to the way the house performs.

The finished home is expansive without feeling imposing—a contemporary Hamptons residence where scale is tempered by warmth and architectural drama is balanced by ease.
