Inside a Mid-Century Modern Sanctuary in Sag Harbor: Where Light, Nature & Design Align

For this project, Domicile & Co. reimagined the original 1970s layout by opening up the segmented rooms to create a cohesive, open-plan flow. We also collaborated closely with the owner to source fixtures, vanities, and stone, and designed custom cabinetry to anchor the newly integrated kitchen space.

Color Palette & Materials
The home’s palette is crisp, warm, and rooted in nature. Soft whites, honey-toned oak, sandy terrazzo, and matte black accents offer a sense of calm and cohesion throughout the interiors. Natural light pours in from expansive windows and skylights, allowing the subtle tones of the materials to shift with the day. Organic elements such as raw wood, woven textures, and stone contribute to a tactile, grounded experience.

Design Philosophy
The renovation honors its mid-century bones while reinterpreting them through a modern, West Coast lens. Every space is intentionally open and airy, inviting flow between indoors and out. Sight lines are uninterrupted, surfaces are clean yet tactile, and the architecture is humble in scale but rich in proportion and detail. Minimalism here doesn’t mean empty—it means considered, curated, and calming.

Furnishings & Fixtures
The furnishings strike a confident balance between sculptural and understated. Rounded, textural stools, low-profile seating, and custom millwork are paired with curated pieces in ceramic, linen, and wood. Fixtures are sleek yet quiet—lighting is flush or sculptural, hardware is discreet, and every utility moment has been softened through design. Each piece feels like it belongs—collected, not staged.

Overall Ambience
This home isn’t just beautifully designed—it feels good to be in. The connection to the landscape is ever-present, creating a resort-like sensibility anchored in privacy and peace. Whether lounging by the pool, reading by the fire, or hosting guests in the kitchen, the atmosphere is serene, effortless, and timeless. It’s classic California comfort, expertly translated to the East End.
